L.O.L. Surprise! Doll
L.O.L. Surprise! Doll’s are one of the more recent additions to the influx of ‘blind-bag’ collectibles, they are also one of the more thought out ones.
“You get seven layers of fun with every L.O.L. Surprise doll! Inside there is a secret message sticker, a collectible sticker sheet, a water bottle charm, a pair of shoes, an outfit, an accessory and a L.O.L. Surprise! doll with water surprise.”
Instead of just opening a bag and the fun being over, you get a number of different things to do by tearing open the perforated zipper on each plastic layer. Phoebe was looking forward to getting her LOL Doll open and quickly tore open the first layer to uncover the first surprise…
It wasn’t the most exciting start and it quickly got pushed to one side to get the next layer open. The next surprise was 4 tiny stickers – again, Phoebe pushed them to one side and opened the next layer.
This time there was something more substantial with a ‘blind-bag’ tucked inside the case. Inside was a drinking bottle for our LOL Doll. Over the next few layers Phoebe uncovered some shoes, a pizza tray, a dress, headband and, finally her LOL Doll.
The doll, with all it’s clothes and accessories does look quite cute and it also has the added bonus of having a ‘water feature’ – each doll is different and the water play could be either a weeing doll, a crying doll or a colour-changing doll. Phoebe’s “Curious Q.T.” was a weeing one and this provided some light entertainment and a few of giggles for a minute or so.
The case can be used as a small carry-case, display stand and play set. As a play set it is poorly designed. The doll can’t sit in her seat without taking the dress off and the table is impossible to balance as shown in the pictures unless you lodge it in place with the drink bottle. This is quite a shame as it basically renders it useless as a play set. What we end up with for £9.99 is a small, 3-inch doll with a headband that doesn’t fit properly and that wees. Literally, it’s only saving grace was the fact that it wees. Phoebe said that she wouldn’t have been very happy if she had spent £10 of her own money on it.
Overall we wouldn’t really recommend the L.O.L. Surprise! Doll. While the idea is certainly novel and it takes some time to get the whole lot open, it is not good value for money and at £9.99 certainly isn’t what I would class as a ‘pocket money’ price. Even at £5 Phoebe said she wouldn’t be happy – it’s just not very good to play with.
